The Welterweight class in the boxing at the 2004 Summer Olympics competition was the fifth-heaviest class. Welterweights were limited to those boxers weighing more than 69 kilograms.

Participants

  • Adam Trupish (CAN) qualified for the Athens Games as a lucky semifinal loser in the second tournament in Tijuana, Mexico. He took the place of Juan McPherson (USA), a finalist from the 2003 Pan American Games' when his quota was dropped by the USA Boxing Association due to unsuccessful presentation at the USA Olympic trials. The winner of those trials, Vanes Martirosyan (USA), qualified for the Qualifying Tournament in Tijuana.
  • Basharmal Sultani of Afghanistan received a wild card from the IOC.
  • S Karimi Ahmedabad (IRA) pulled out of the Olympic Tournament before the draw in Athens.
