History

Boyracer was founded by vocalist/guitarist Stewart Anderson in 1990, and released their first single in 1991. Richard Adams left the group in 1993, after which the group released its first EP, Naked. They then signed with Sarah Records and released two more EPs in 1993. Both James Chadwick and Simon Guild departed early in 1994, and Anderson put together a whole new lineup before releasing the group's debut full-length for Slumberland Records. More lineup changes ensued in 1994 while the prolific group continued to put out releases at a frenetic rate, with a slew of 7 inch EPs and they toured the United States for the first time at the beginning of 1995. Later that year they signed with MCA subsid label Zero Hour Records. The label dropped them while they were doing a nationwide U.S. tour.[1] They then release several singles on independent American labels over the course of 1996. Early in 1997, the group split up, but in 2000 Anderson reconstituted Boyracer with several new members, and has been active with a huge amount of new material both as Boyracer as well as a plethora of new bands.

Boyracer is a punkpop band which started in Leeds, UK, in 1989. Early in their career, they recorded three singles for Sarah Records, despite their sound being somewhat faster and harsher than most of their labelmates. Between 1991 and 1996 Boyracer released 15 7 inch EPs and 4 full length albums before splitting in 1996, after a disasterous flirt with major label owned Zero Hour records. The band reformed in 2001 by the only constant member, and frontman Stewart Anderson with his new wife Jen Turrell (daughter of acclaimed conceptual artist James Turrell) and have since picked up the pace again releasing a plethora of DIY underground releases.
Stewart moved to the USA in 2001; the lineup for releases since 2001 has been Stewart Anderson, who is also owner of the 555 record label and wife Jen Turrell, also the owner of Red Square recordings label.

Boyracer has had over 40 band members since 1989.

Former drummer, Ged McGurn, now fronts the Leeds-based psychedelic noise popsters, Downdime.
Guitarist Matty Green records as The Tall Boy.

In the early years of Boyracer Stewart Anderson was a regular sight in Leeds city centre working on a Baked Potato stall. He has travelled and played shows all over the world as and with Boyracer, Steward, Hulaboy, The How, The Cannanes, Even As We Speak, Empress, Hood, etc etc. He now owns and runs a cattle ranch in Northern Arizona where he lives without electricity with his wife Jen, several horses and 350 black angus cows.
