Brad Christian (born in
Vancouver,
British Columbia,
Canada) is a professional
magician and online
entrepreneur residing in
California.
He runs the internet magic site "Ellusionist.com" aimed at training newcomers in magic.
Ellusionist.com was founded in 2000.
As a professional magician with over 25 years of experience, he has published several videos in which he teaches magic sleights and tricks.
His wide variety of award-winning videos include: Crash Course 1 and 2, Ninja 1 and 2, King Rising, Inside Magic, Kard Klub, and his best-selling video,
How to do Street Magic.
Brad was a student of
Tony Slydini, in his early days of performing.
He decided to start Ellusionist after he met his nephew for the first time.
Playing with a toy car on the floor, Brad made it disappear.
He recalls the look of astonishment on the face of his nephew.
The experience led him to introduce the art of astonishment to the 'common man', allowing everybody to have the chance of learning the art of illusion.
Hence, www.ellusionist.com was born.
Christian created http://www.ellusionist.com, the largest online commercial magic retailer.
Ellusionist sells many original effects created by various industry professionals.
He also performed in a gambling commercial that was aired for some time.
The Ellusionist creation of the
Black Tiger Deck has led to a worldwide use and is currently one of Ellusionists most notable inventions.
Ellusionist is notable for its pop marketing, capitalizing on the latest trends and cool magic, and targeting a young audience.
The ellusionist training videos are easily identified by high-quality production values and the use of MTV-style editing.
Besides meeting such celebrities (due to his magic) as
Nicolas Cage and
Eric Roberts, he's also made a television debut playing "Clinton" (the cardshark gambler) on the daytime show
As the World Turns.
He's also performed with singer
Billy Joel in the video "Big Shot."
After being asked about the creation of his site, Brad has been recalled saying "I started the site not to give away the art of illusion but to give the common man a chance to learn magic and have a great deal of fun with it."
The site (www.ellusionist.com) and company have become the target of many "inside jokes" among magicians.
The company and Brad Christian have been accused of simply taking an existing trick, repackaging it and calling it their own.
The prices on the website are exceptionally high and the quality of the product is not always up to par.
Late last year a picture of Mr Christian surfaced on the internet.
The picture showed him eating a piece of pizza in a shopping mall wearing a "fanny pack" and apparently wearing eyeliner.
This resulted in a large number of amateur magicians turning their back on the company and Mr Christian.
The website had recruited such talents as Wayne Houchin and
Daniel Garcia who the website portrays as "superstar magicians".
Amongst the magic community the company has become somewhat of a joke and is not taken seriously.
