The supernatural and all that surrounds it is
certainly selling well through modern popular culture. From The
Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter, there is no doubting that the
supernatural sells. In order to understand what is drawing
audiences to supernatural films, TV shows and books however, we
must have an understanding of what the supernatural actually is.
Regardless of a need for definition, the elements drawing audiences
to the supernatural is clear. In the modern world dominated by
terrorists and religious extremists, any person displaying a
spiritual understanding is shown as the enemy. The supernatural
allows the audience to escape into a world that they can never hope
to achieve in society. Modern society is more than willing to
accept the supernatural in popular culture.
