History

The beginning of Brainless Horseman coincides with the November 5, 1999 premiere of Caught in the Act, a sketch comedy program seen in Virginia from 1999 to 2004. Formed by Dillehunt and friend Jeremy Johnson, the duo produced 100 episodes of their show during its 5-year run, making it the longest-running sketch comedy program in the history of Charlottesville Public Access TV. After producing several more television projects as a group, friends Chris Simmons, Jr. and Courtney Johnson officially joined the troupe in April 2003 and June 2005, respectively.

What sets Brainless Horseman apart from most improv groups is the lack of audience participation. Dillehunt and Johnson created a particular type of improvisation, often involving just one or two paragraphs from which a 30-60 minute program was formed, while maintaining a sketch comedy format. Their unique brand of humor also plays into the bizarre, yet spontaneous style to which the group's other two members easily adapted. In addition, the absence of a studio audience allows the troupe to develop literally every aspect of the show, resulting in less anticipated jokes and scenes.

With a solid group of four twenty-something performers and nearly seven years under their belts, Brainless Horseman is on path to becomming the next big thing in improvisational comedy.

Film and Television

Jeremy Johnson's debut feature film, Commercial Screenplay, was completed in September 2004. The project was the first joint venture to officially include the Brainless Horseman name, as Dillehunt served as Executive Producer.

Though there has been much discussion about television pilots and series, nothing has yet been publicly announced.
