From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bramble Park Zoo is located in Watertown, South Dakota. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA).[1] Open since 1912, the zoo today comprises 15 acres with approximately 500 animals representing 130 different species.[2]

History

The zoo is named after Frank Bramble, who donated pheasants and other birds to the town to put on display. The Chinese ring-necked pheasant is the South Dakota state bird.

Lake Area Zoological Society

In 1972, the Lake Area Zoological Society (LAZS) was founded to provide significant assistance in the growth, development and professionalism of the Zoo.[2]

The LAZS puts out a quarterly publication entitled Animal Chatter.[3]

Bramble Park Zoo provides an opportunity to observe the animal kingdom firsthand. Visitors can come face-to-face with the eyes of a Jaguar or listen to the variety of chirps by the assorted birds, but do not forget to feel the soft, furry coats of the mammals.

Experience over 500 mammals, reptiles and birds representing more than 130 varieties from around the world and those native to the great plains living in a re-creation of their own naturalistic habitats.

Discover one of the largest waterfowl and pheasant collections in the U.S.A. Marvel at their beauty as they show their colors in their natural habitat, wade in the ponds or fly overhead.

Learn about the wildlife of the world. One of the zoo's primary goals is to educate others. Information signs, educational tours and demonstrations help them achieve this goal. Conservation goals are achieved by providing for and breeding threatened and endagered wildlife.
