Brandon James is a college football player at the running back and return specialist positions for the University of Florida. He is a two-time All American football player.


High school career

James was a running back and return specialist for St. Augustine High School, where, as a senior, he helped lead the school to its first ever Class 3A state championship. He chose to attend the University of Florida over Auburn, Louisville, Penn State, and South Carolina.

College career

As a freshman in 2006, James saw immediate playing time at the kick returner position. He returned 33 punts for 363 yards and 1 touchdown in 2006, which earned him a spot on the Coaches' All-SEC Freshman team, as well as a spot on the Freshman All-American team by His 33-yard kickoff return against Ohio State in the 2007 BCS National Championship Game gave the Gators the ball in Buckeye territory after Ohio State's Ted Ginn, Jr. opened the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown. The Gators would end up winning the game and thus the national championship by the score of 41-14.

In 2007, James returned just 14 punts as his presence in the backfield made him split returns with freshman Chris Rainey. James increased his average punt return to 18.1 yards and rushed 24 times for 133 yards. He also averaged 28.0 yards per kickoff return, a stat that earned him second team All-America status by The Sporting News and

James also ran track in 2007, competing at SEC Outdoor Championships and running in the 100m prelim in 10.87 seconds to finish 23rd.
