Breakpoint City is a webcomic created by Brian Emling. It follows the adventures of time traveler, Ben Megawatt, and his dog, Dan, in the future. The comic mainly takes in a floating city (called Breakpoint City) in the middle of Summit County, Ohio. Breakpoint City was originally created as senior project during Emling's last year of high school, but, due to 'being bit by the cartooning bug', the comic has continued on for more than six years.

Cast of Characters

Main Cast

Benjamin Megawatt

First Appearance: June 30th, 2000 [1818]

For reasons unknown, Benjamin Megawatt constructed a time machine, and traveled into the distant future. An accident upon arrival transformed him into a superhero who can conduct electricity. He defends Breakpoint City using his smarts and inventing skills (and his powers, but not too often). Other than the discovery of time travel, and a collar that allows his dog, Dan, to speak, Ben's only accepted patent so far is for an animatronic dancing squirrel.

Dan the Dog

First Appearance: June 30th, 2000 [1819]

Dan is Ben’s pet dog and is still adjusting to life in the future. Dan is a dreamer, always seeking the fame and adoration he believes he deserves. Unfortunately, he's too cowardly to actually obtain such things. He does have a sense of adventure however, and if the situation is right, he’ll follow his friends into the fray. Dan is especially envious of Ben’s superpowers, and has acquired his own, lame power in spite.

Sofia Jaypeg

First Appearance: November 11th, 2000 [1820]

Befriending Ben and Dan from day one, Sofia is their guide to the world of tomorrow. Sofia’s psionic powers enable her to utilize that extra 1% of her mind to dish out some major pain. Sofia wants to make a name for herself in the heroic circles, though her thirst for adventure often lands everyone in deep trouble.

Supporting Cast

Tack "Tacky" Turkey

First Appearance: January 19th, 2001 [1821]

Tacky Turkey is the owner and manager of the Breakpoint City Cafe, regular hangout of the main cast. Although he hasn't been seen in awhile, Tacky is heavily involved in earlier storylines. He is also one of Brain Emling's earliest characters, created in 1993.

Mort the Eggplant

First Appearance: August 4th, 2000 [1822]

Mort is an eggplant. He appears in unobvious places and occasionally saves the day when no one is looking.

Enemies

Dr. Ebenezer Mizkit

First Appearance: May 12th, 2001 [1823]

Dr. Mizkit is a brilliant scientist who, after continually receiving allegations of ripping off inventions from other, is driven mad. He becomes Ben's nemesis after coming up with the idea for a talking squirrel and finding out Ben invented it many hundreds of years previous. Later, after being sent to a mental institution in the past at the end of Episode 105, "Nemesis"[1824], he returns, Quantum Leap-style in Episode 304: "Sequel"[1825], to inhabit Ben's body to try and destroy his reputation. He, of course, fails miserbly and ends up inhabiting the body of Carrot Top.

Rez

First Appearance: November 11th, 2002 [1826]

Rez is Dr. Mizkit's dog. He can't stand the mad doctor, but either can't, or won't leave to acheive his own evil plans. Rez hasn't been seen since the end of Episode 304: "Sequel"[1827], where we see him asking for escape from the mercy of Carrot Top, in possession of Dr. Mizkit's body (Rez did appear during the events of Episodes 501 and 502, though, since they took place as a dream of Dan's, it really doesn't count.)
