Brenin James Francis
Edmunds was born on June 19th, 1987 in
Scarborough, Toronto (Canada). He was born to father, Steven
Edmunds and mother, Bernadene Edmunds. He has one brother, Cameron
(born November 18th, 1985). Brenin's family later moved to Durham,
Ontario (Canada).
Brenin, throughtout his short yet extensive
career, has dabbled in different genres, and ultimately created
ties in different places to ensure gradual success. In the early
1990's, he was encouraged to play instruments because of the long
history of musicians on his father's side of the family. Brenin was
very interested in guitar and drums early on, but unfortunetly
because of the low income situation his family was in, it wasn't
easy to supply him with the proper tools. This is how an interest
in hip-hop had arisen.
Brenin made his way (barely) through
school, struggling because of lack of interest. The only thing that
kept him going was the love of music, and the plans he held to gain
fame through his original ideas and thoughts. When Brenin was 12
years old, he adopted the alias
MC Brenman -
mimicing his favourite emcee at the time, Method Man. Although very
underdeveloped, Brenin's rhymes were promising and had a large part
in his interest in the English language. Through the years, Brenin
changed his alias as do many emcees, until he found the perfect
alias for him:
RUBiX (Always spelt with all
capital letters except the i, which always remained little). Brenin
went through such names as
MC Brenman,
Brenman,
MC Alkaline,
X-Caliber,
Def-1 and
finally
RUBiX.
As time went on, Brenin became
bored of hip-hop and his interest in rock music once again
surfaced. He started a rap-metal band in 2001 by the name of
Severed Limbs. This band consisted of Brenin
Edmunds on vocals and rhythm guitar, Jake Fortney on guitar and
back-up vocals, Aaron Hicks on drums and Jeff Morrison on bass
(later to be replaced by Cameron Edmunds shortly before the band
broke up). Severed Limbs broke up in early 2002, leaving Brenin
looking for more of a sound that suited him. In the summer of 2002,
Brenin created what would be a 5 year, ever-evolving music project.
With friend, Joe Nantais,
Mudorcs was
born.
Mudorcs began as a comedy-alternative
group. Brenin found this to be an outlet of things that were on his
mind that didn't actually make much sense. Their first independent
album, 'Mr. Postman' consisted of 13 tracks about pretty much
nothing. Their only single, 'The Corner' became a well known
'anthem' in the area, and urged Brenin and Joe, the now firmly
placed guitarist, to continue on with their music. Mudorcs released
a second independent LP in 2003 loosely titled 'Immortal'. It
featured heavier songs, with serious lyrics. The only thing lacking
in these songs unfortunetly, were drums.
After Immortal had been
distributed (as any independent artist's LP should be), Mudorcs
went on hiatus. With lack of new ideas, and a slowely growing
irritibility growing between Brenin and Joe, Mudorcs seemed to be
no more. This gave Brenin time to work on his first side project,
One Man Minority. After writing 4 tracks in total,
and distributing 'The Only One' - the track in which was to be
Brenin's major boost towards labels, he was once again participated
completely with
Mudorcs.
One Man
Minority was set aside, and has yet to be
resurfaced.
Brenin and Joe started working on almost studio
quality songs (because of learning better recording techniques and
proper drum pick up techniques) and finally, in the summer of 2004,
released their true debut album, 'Soul Oxide'. Featuring their
singles, 'Stick Around', 'Devil Boy' and 'Long Road' - Soul Oxide
was an instant hit, and won a lot of nay-sayers over. It circulated
the area like wildfire, and left fans wanting more of the
grunge-hard rock sound that Mudorcs produced. Unfortunetly, that
sound would never come.
In 2005, Brenin finished high-school,
and moved to Kincardine, Ontario where he would work to go to
school. At this point, Brenin had given up on the idea of getting a
recorded contract and worked on music now and then. He finished his
very first solo album, under his own name, titled 'In Doubt'. It
featured 13 songs completely produced and played by Brenin. This
includes guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, electronic drums, and
vocals. Distributing it among friends and family, it was just a
work that was done over time, and nothing special in his
eyes.
Also in 2005, Brenin recorded another album titled
'Somewhere Between Me and Myself' under his alias, RUBiX. It was a
hip-hop album, commemorating his almost 10 years doing it.
When
2006 rolled around, Brenin began producing his second solo album
titled 'Project Underdog'. Unfortunetly, for the amount of work
that went into it, it didn't turn out as well as he had hoped. It
featured a few radio friendly hits, such as 'This World is a Piece
of Crap' and 'Judgement Day'. He also began his MySpace website
http://www.myspace.com/breninedmunds
Brenin Edmunds MySpace to give previews of his newest
music.
