The Summit Open Source Development Group

In late 2001, working with various systems administrators, Bruns helped found the SOSDG to support the idea of a non-profit orginization that could provide free resources and hosting to individuals and Open Source / Free Software developers.

The Abusive Hosts Blocking List

With the assistance of Andrew D. Kirch and other SOSDG administrators, Bruns created the AHBL to replace Joe Jared's Osirusoft DNSbl list, which was taken offline by a massive DDoS attack[396][397].

In December 2005, in his capacity as an administrator with the AHBL, he was a named defendant in a lawsuit brought by Richard Scoville, whose website had been blocked by the AHBL's DNS blocking list. The suit, which Bruns and the other named defendants characterized as frivolous, was dismissed by the presiding judge for lack of jurisdiction.
