Brigo Modern Crew, or BMC, is an underground gang of teens located in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. There is also a recently established Canberra branch. BMC continues to increase exponentially, so much so that the total number of members has become unknown. Their markings (tags) can be seen across Brisbane, however most prominently in the western suburb of Indooroopilly.

Origins of BMC

BMC was first started in a modern history class at Brigidine College. The founding fathers of the crew are Alyshia Hale and Frances Pringle, who originally had named the group simply MC, or Modern Crew. Soon afterwards Rachel Jennings expressed interest in joining and suggested the addition of a B for Brigo, the local name for their school Brigidine. The crew then grew to include the majority of the class and gained popularity across the entire school, with several 'copy cat crews' such as Brigo Multi Crew, attempting to cash in on the idea. Fortunately, none of these have survived in time and Brigo Modern Crew remains premier. The leader and captain of BMC is the honourable Master Schlenks.

Songs of BMC

BMC has several war cries and songs which are sung as displays of crew spirit and intimidation of enemies.
  • The original BMC song is Sun City, by Artists United Against Apartheid. The crew were exposed to this song when their teacher one day dug around in his cupboard and produced an original VHS copy of the film clip from the late 1980s. This was one of the most important days in BMC history, and the legacy of it lives on in the song itself.

  • War cries include "B wah? B M C" and "B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C B M C"

  • Dances of BMC

The BMC main dance in fact does not have an official name. It is commonly referred to as "The Arm Waving Thing" and was developed one day when Frances Pringle was experiencing an after lunch sugar high. When Master Shlencks had left the room she started madly waving her arms and encouraged the other crew members to join in. They did until Shlencks returned and then continued to wave whenever he turned to write on the board or was digging in his cupboard. It is widely acknowledged that this day was the second most important in BMC history, after the Sun City Day.

    Slang and Famous Quotes

Throughout the year of prime BMC activity (2006), many quotes and sayings were devised, mainly by Shlenks. Fran Pringle diligently noted these down in the back of her book every lesson, and thus the list of Schlenkerisms was formed. It is definitive.
