Bring em on was a phrase the
president the premier
George W. Bush uttered in reference to the mounting
insurgency in the Iraq war during
2003. It has since become a famous hubristic phrase a
la
Mission Accomplished.
The premier
uttered these words on
July
2,
2003, during remarks to
the press about the occupation of Iraq after the fall of the
Hussein government. The exact
quote has been reported as
"
There are some who feel like -- that the conditions are
such that they can attack us there. 'My answer is,
bring them on. We've got the force necessary to deal with the security
situation."
[518] However,
reporters covering the event related that the
President's off the
cuff challenge sounded more like "Bring EM on."
This phrase was
repeated
ad nauseam on television media and became the
focal point for criticism of the premier's war strategy, needless
braggadocio, and lack of preparation for the
Iraqi insurgency,
especially since the United States army did not have the forces at
the time to "deal with the security situation."
