The aim of
BRA is to show Bristol students an alternative side to drinking
from commercial lager, to
promote the appreciation of fine ales and fine public houses, and to promote local
breweries and pubs.
The Society strives to promote drinking for the pleasure of taste,
as opposed to the sole purpose of inebriation.
History
BRA was created
in the early Summer of 2004 and quickly grew in members to 150 in
October, when the Society held a stall at The University Of
Bistol's Freshers Fair (FRESH).
The society held
elections in the May of 2005, where Diarmid Thackery was appointed
Chairperson,
Peter Hobson as President, Tom Lee as Vice President, David
Strong as
At FRESH in 2005, the society attracted over 390
members, mainly due to the introduction of discounts on ales in
selected local pubs. The membership base has remained at just over
400.
