Britethorn's official logo.
Britethorn is a collective of like-minded
indvidiuals creating satirical comedy videos for internet
distribution. The first full series of videos that have become
extremely popular on YouTube are political parodies of the famous
PC/Mac ads. They star
Aaron Sjoholm as the Democrat and Shawn Girvan as the Republican.
John Tolley appears in "Halloween" as a Southern Republican.
Sherman Edwards appears as African American Voter in the film,
"Country."
Britethorn: A Comedic Revolt
The crew of
Britethorn are all employees of The Second City Theater in Chicago --
all working behind the scenes.
On the evening of the 2006
midterm elections, the crew of Britethorn produced five additional
videos as part of their Election Night Coverage. These were
directed by Jeff Hadick and written by Britethorn
Creator/Writer/Producer John T. Kramer-- with improvisation by
actors Shawn Girvan (Republican Clark Bachman) and Adam Yencho
(Skippy.)
Britethorn has been featured on sites such as
The New York
Times and the Blog site Daily Kos. The Democrat/Republican
series of vidoes were directed by Johnny Bruder and Jeff Hadick.
Many of the later videos have been directed by Aaron Sjoholm.
Britethorn's single most successful video in terms of internet
traffic, Britethorn Responds!, was featured on
the front page of YouTube on January 7, 2007. The video is a response
to a user comment for one of Britethorn's older videos, Country.
Videography (post-Democrat/Republican):
Johnny Bruder
returned to direct the most produced Britethorn video to date,
Hit Men, a
bold, comedic interrogation of the perfectly average Democratic
voter, which has been featured on numerous websites and continues
to make the rounds in various film festivals.
Black Kramer, entirely
recorded on cellphone cameras, features Sherman Edwards in
Britethorn's comedic take on the famed Michael Richards
incident.
A Welcome to Britethorn
message, created in February when Britethorn was one of
YouTube's featured
channels, gained attention from all over the world and the
blogosphere.
From "Republican" Shawn Girvan and friend to
Britethorn, Adam Yencho, The Break-Up was posted
to the Britethorn channel on YouTube.
Briefly, from Britethorn's friends at
"FatCo", a St. Patrick's Day PSA regarding
overconsumption of Shamrock shakes (directed by Aaron Sjoholm) was
posted to the channel.
Very recently, John Kramer & Aaron
Sjoholm were the subjects of a video interview by graduate students
at Northwestern University while they filmed their low-budget take
on The One Thing
President Bush Has Gotten Right.
Currently, the Clinton/Obama: The Debate
for the Black Vote" video, Britethorn's longest to date, is
being released in parts around the internet after the first part's
exclusive release on the Capitol Hill Broadcast Network website.
