The word "Bro" commonly refers to a sub-culture of action sport enthusiasts found in California. Bros are also known for their intensive party habits.

Bro-Attire

Bro's can often be seen wearing T-shirts of the Fox Racing brand, SRH brand (known for its blatant use of 80's hardcore band logos), or the Famous Stars and Straps brand (other brands may include, Skin, LRG, and Alpine Star). Additionally, Bros wear tall black socks and usually sport some style of black or dark skateboarding shoe.

Head attire consists of a flat brimmed hat tilted at an angle, sometimes with the visor aimed up. For UV protection, Bros wear black sunglasses of the Spy brand. Bros often have very distinctive tattoos, often a red and black version of the Nautical star either on chest, elbows, or shoulders. In general, a Bro will wear all black apparel if possible. However, Bro is a loosely used term to describe a person, so any combination of the aforementioned clothing and accessories with another style does not make or break a Bro.

Bro Attitude

The average bro will display inordinate levels of testosterone, causing high amounts of cockiness and rowdiness, which is often perceived negatively by society.

Bro Music

Bro's listen to many different types of music, most specifically Hard Rock, and the newest Rap. Examples of artists Bros may listen to include Kottonmouth Kings, Disturbed, Korn, pet shop boys ~ party like a rock star, Nelly.

Bro Transportation

Bros usually drive large 4x4 vehicles, often lifted with larger shocks, larger wheels to give them the impression of being lifted high off the ground. Other than cars, Bros may drive their dirt bike.

Types of Bros

There are several types of bros- some categorized by their geographic location and others by their social position, be it a fraternity style bro or a preppy bro.

Northern Californian Bro

The Northern California Bro, or Nor-Cal Bro, is easily spotted by several distinctive features. They can be spotted by the white "NOR-CAL" Sticker affixed to the back window of their lifted truck.
A little known fact: the term and company "Nor-Cal" was originated from Nor-Cal Surf Shop of Pacifica, CA. This is a common misconception as Bro's almost exclusively ride dirt bikes.

So-Cal Bro

Southern California Bros are similar in style to the Norcal Bro, except obviously are not supporting the "nor-cal" stickers or shirts. Additionally, Southern Californian Bros are more likely to participate in beach activities.

Fraternity Bro

This bro is most often found on college campuses around America. This bro is proud that he is a bro and will often use phrases like "lets bro out". This bro is always in some state of intoxication as a result of their love of Natty Ice.

Preppy Bro

A prep bro is very similar to the fraternity bro with the addition of a pink or baby blue polo shirt with the collar up. This bro, along with the fraternity bro is referred to in the Bro-Rape Video.

Bro's In Popular Culture

Bro have found a larger level of popularity after the NYU comedy troupe Derrick Comedy made a video entitled "Bro Rape" which described heinous activities of the "Frat-Bro".
  • "A bro is an 18-24 year old male who wears Birkenstock Sandals, watches Family Guy, plays Ultimate Frisbee, and wears an upside-down visor or baseball cap with a pre-frayed brim."

  • Within the Hardcore Punk community, bro's are seen as obnoxious, drunk, partiers with little or no regard for alternate lifestyles. This may be why band write songs negatively depicting bros.
