Broadmoor Apartments formerly Apple Hill Apartments is a rundown tenement in Hamden, Connecticut, a suburb of New Haven. Presently managed by Fairfield Properties this complex of six old buildings is described by most as a dump. Criminal activity, over flowing washing machines, and drug using neighbors are just a few of the usual sights at Broadmoor. Property manager Rhonda Marlowe does little, if anything, to correct any of the misfortunate happenings at Broadmoor.

In early 2007 Broadmoor began an advertising campaign where it was marketed as a "luxury community". While present and past tenants shared in a hearty laugh, it is suspected that at least a few individuals may have been taken in by the false promises and set themselves up to have their hopes destroyed and quite possibly to develop a horrible disease along the way. Current tenants that advocate truth in advertising routinely comment that the advertising campaign should state, "Broadmoor, where the roaches out number the tenants 3 to 1".

All prospective tenants in the Hamden and New Haven areas, as well as students at Quinnipiac, Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), University of New Haven, and Yale should beware of the horrible conditions that await them at Broadmoor, Hamden's most infamous tenement.

Broadmoor makes very large "donations" to local fire and police departments

Councilwoman Betty Wetmore voiced "concern" over Broadmoor's $20,000 "donation" to the Hamden Fire Department and $10,000 donation to the Hamden Police Department made during the course of Broadmoor's property "renovations". This donation stands in contrast to the local Home Depot's donation of a refrigerator and $125 gift card to the fire department.

Candid comments from current tenants

(1) Buildings still have roaches and mold/mildew that doesn't disappear when you install new fixtures/materials. someone killed here last year over a drug deal gone bad.

(2) As for safety and parking- our car was stolen from the lot a month ago and the office acted as if it was no big dela to them. So get a club if you live here!

(3) There have been many problems with cars getting vandalized in the parking lots. My neighbor who parks right next to me had his car stolen, and I had my car broken into. People also park in other reserved spots and no parking areas.

(4) Absolutely terrible! Roaches, incredibly dirty buildings, mold, terrible smells, and maintanence that doesn't do anything except make a lot of noise early in the morning. Called THREE TIMES to get my shower fixed and still NOTHING!! Had the apartment above mine being fixed up, maintanence was there at 7:30 in the morning pounding away, yelling and swearing at the top of their lungs. The smells from this place are nauseating. Garbage rooms are directly across from apartments, which leads to roaches. You will find roaches, it doesn't matter how clean you are. Office staff is beyond horrible. They don't give a damn about your problems

(5) The place does have roaches, no matter how clean your apartment is. And then fruit flies all summer long. The gym here is a nice feature, but totally disgusting. No spray to clean the machines with, so you're basically working out in someone else's sweat. Machines are constantly broken and take weeks for maintenance to fix. Seeing cops here everyday sort of makes you feel safe unless you remember that there was someone killed here last year over a drug deal gone bad.

(6) They offer no monthly statements...you receive no bill.
Checks are often 'lost' or misplaced or credited to someone elses account!
never give them cash!

(7) The only reason I actually lived here was because my employer placed me there...I would never intentionally choose to live there. Look elsewhere if you'd like a nice decent place to live.

(8) There is mold in all the apartments...an inside source told me and my roommates that if the board of health was ever called Apple Hill would be shut down. The air conditioning vent was filled with mold and the ceiling fell in over my bed and in my roommates shower. They did not fix the problem for three weeks and then they took away our deposit after putting us through all these mold issues. Oh by the way, since the mold is in the air conditioning, I had no air conditioning since the problem was fixed, in the dead of July. They said they fixed the ceiling and could turn on the air conditioning, and when I came home, there was another puddle on my floor, which took another two weeks to fix. When you go in to ask about apartments, ask about the mold.

(9) Pay attention to details, do not let the beautiful clubhouse and grounds fool you. Since the new property owners took over, only one elevator works in each building and the laundry rooms are an entire issue within themselves

(10) Also the police are always there for one thing or another.
The lowlife here give the good people no reason to want to stay in this roach infested ---- hole.

(11) I've lived here for two years and I've realized that people in the leasing office have a terrible attitude when you walk in with problems/issues.

(12) This dump changed its name to broadmoor but its still infested with BUGS FOUL SMELLS & the same lying rental agents & mgt dont be fooled by the nice landscaping unless you plan on living in the bushes this S-HOLE is everything the previous postings say it is HELL on earth stay far far away

(13) I have approached the property manager on several occassions with different maintenance-related issues and have gotten nowhere. Not to mention she is outright rude at times. Also, it is true what someone below wrote about people walking into your apartment whenever they want. One time I was in the bedroom and heard my doorbell ring. I immediately stood up, walked out of the master bedroom and into the living room to answer the door, and the workers were already keying into my apartment (they gave me all of 3 seconds to answer the door!)...I was very lucky that I wasn't in the middle of showering or getting dressed when they barged right in.

(14) Read the police log in the newspaper-always someone from 630,640,650,660,670 or 680 Mix Ave. Usually drugs-they will rent to anyone who signs on the dotted line beacuse the prices are so high and the agents have such pressure to rent, rent, rent no matter what-no empty apts! Quotas, quotas, quotas!
I know-I have insider info.

(15) Maintnance will come in without any permission or notice they just walk right in to do what i dunno cause they dont fix anything and the people in the office are just rude and they dont care about you or anybody they told me i couldt use the facilities cause i wasnt a standing resident whatever that means they liked my money though

(16) Moved after these people changed their name from Apple Hill to Broadmoor Apts. 'Sucks' is not a word to describe this place.
The maintenance people take a forever to fix even a basic problem.
The elevators of some of the buildings are not working for as long as 6 months. when I moved I was told the elevators are not working since some time.
The most frustrating thing about this whole situation is that the rental office people are extremely rude and lie through their teeth.
If you plan to have visitors ask them not to get their cars since you can't find them any space for parking
