Browncastle.net is an internet forum created for Waterloo Region high school students. Its goal is to facilitate meetings, promote discussions of music, movies, and games, and to provide a general meeting place and discussion forum for its users.

History

Browncastle.net was created by Johnny Gibson in 2003. The original site was intended to be a scatology paysite, but was turned into a forum in 2004. Since then the forum has grown quickly, been surrounded by much controversy and overcome many technical, legal and financial problems (such as getting their illegal use of software reported). On April 26 2005, just two months after "The new Browncastle" was opened, there were 216 registered members and over 7,800 posts. However, most of these users are dummy accounts created by people posting under multiple identities, banned users, or just idle accounts. Also, most of the posts where either made in a section with users flaming each other, or by the moderators addressing even the most inane post with lots of redundant writing.

Staff

The current moderating team changes almost on a monthly basis. The only real "moderator" who (mis)uses their title would be Paul Cyr. Paul Cyr is an authoritarian mod who enjoys debating with members on the forum until he's losing, he then locks a topic and bans all parties involved. When questioned about this in a post he quickly deleted the post and banned the username and the user's I.P. address. These constant questions of his authority eventually forced the admin, Johnny, to add a new rule saying that one could be banned "at their descretion". Paul Cyr, however, still takes a great deal of abuse for his moderating abilities and his openly homosexual lifestyle.

Clients

The forum is host to many, many wacky characters, most of whom have the spelling ability of your average third grade retard. The few "intelligent" forumers are usually banned because they can talk back to the moderators and be understood. These people enjoy believing that they are hip because they listen to underground and independant (indie) music such as The Killers, The Bravery, Greenday, and Simple Plan. In reality you must watch out for these people, as they hide under the stairs and lick your boots as you walk above them. Pity them.
