Francis
Bruce Fitzpatrick is a named partner of
Lockington, Lawless, Fitzpatrick law firm in
Peterborough,
Ontario, and is the PC Party Candidate in that riding for the
upcoming provincial election.
Education and Law
Practice
Fitzpatrick was educated at Texas Christian
University, the University of Toronto (B.A. - 1983) and Queen's
University in Kingston, Ontario (LL.B - 1986). He was called to the
Bar in 1988.
From 1988 to 1992 Fitzpatrick practiced law in
Toronto. In January of 1993 Fitzpatrick moved back to his hometown
of Peterborough to form Lockington, Lawless, Fitzpatrick
LLP.
Early Political Involvement
In 2000,
Fitzpatrick was elected President of the Peterborough Progressive
Conservative Electoral District Association and remained in that
post until 2006.
In 2003, Fitzpatrick was named campaign manager
for then incumbent MPP
Gary Stewart for the October election.
In
2006, Fitzpatrick was acclaimed as the
Progressive
Conservative candidate for
Peterborough riding for
the
October 2007 provincial
election. He was the first non-incumbent candidate selected by
the party for that election.
While Fitzpatrick is a first time
candidate, he has been active in the Peterborough community since
his return in 1992. He has sat on a number of advisory boards which
include the Peterborough Youth Soccer Association, Trent Valley
Archives, Trent Child Care Centre, Marycrest Home for the Aged,
Peterborough Hearing Handicapped Group Home Society, Ontario Bar
Association Council and the Ontario Chapter of the Duke of
Edinburgh Award. In 2005, Fitzpatrick was given a City of
Peterborough Civic Award for his involvement with an annual
Christmas radio appeal which has raised more than $170,000.00 over
five years in support of Peterborough food banks and other local
charities.
Fitzpatrick is married to fellow lawyer Karen Sisson.
Together they have three sons.
In the spring of 2007,
Fitzpatrick named John McNutt as his campaign manager. This
selection came as a surprise to some, as McNutt had in the fall of
2006 been campaign manager for the successful Peterborough mayoral
bid of Paul Ayotte, a member of the Liberal party. McNutt had
however been a member of electoral boards of directors for the PC
party in the past.
Following the selection of McNutt, other key
members of Fitzpatrick's team fell into place, and the candidate
now has a functioning website (www.votebruce.ca)
