History
Bryce Calvin Beverlin II (Born May 19 1978) is a musician, poet, film maker, dancer, composer, and performance artist currently based in
Minneapolis Minnesota.
Bryce was born in
St. Paul Minnesota to parents Dr. Bryce Beverlin MD and Pamela Beverlin.
At the age of 3 he began playing the
piano studying with Bonnie Doole through the Suzuki Piano Method with such songs as "mississippi hot dog."
His aptitude with music was quickly realized and encouraged by his parents who kept him practicing all the way into his teens.
By the time of middle school, Bryce was studying piano with Carol Lacey who encouraged him to enter contests and public performance opportunities.
He performed at the MMTA concert at Northrup Hall after winning a state piano contest.
In 1992 Bryce began studying percussion and quickly found a friend in the multitude of instruments available.
Soon after, Bryce discovered free improvisational music through the Canadian based group,

He began to improvise with friends Greg Stuart and Jason Biederman. These sessions would become the seeds of Bryce's free improvisational music future.
He attended
Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois from 1996 to 2000 where he studied percussion performance under Michael Burritt,
Paul Wertico, Jim Ross, and Ruben Alvarez. At Northwestern he joined Greg Stuart, Don Nichols, and Merritt Lyon to form the free improvisation group, quadrivium.
Bryce started the
Insides Music recording label and Psionic Art Publishing Company in 1999 to release recordings of the group quadrivium. Insides music now houses over 30 releases of experimental and progressive music from all over the world.
In the summer of 1998 Bryce composed the piece cm4Rø for cd in two parts based on a drum beat by the same name and an excerpt of
Martin Luther King Jr's speech, 'the drum major instinct.' In the summer of 1999 Bryce teamed up with friend Kurt Welshinger to create a video accompaniment to the audio work.
In December 2000, Bryce began a large film work known as [
deathproj ] with Kurt Welshinger. The film is to be completed in August 2006. Sections of deathproj have been screened at the Redeye Theatre in Minneapolis. In July 2005, deathproj was installed at the Soap Factory Art Gallery which included some select movements from the film, sculpture, and live performance by actors of the film.
Since January 2002 Beverlin has been studying
Physics and
Astrophysics at the University of Minnesota.
