Bullfrog Power is a Canadian electricity retailer operating in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Bullfrog offers its customers power from renewable energy sources, such as wind and low-impact water power. Every generator has been certified to meet or exceed the federal government's Environmental Choice Program EcoLogo standard for renewable electricity.[1]

In Ontario, where almost three-quarters of the grid's power comes from nuclear and coal-burning generators,[2] Bullfrog's power is a mix of 20% wind and 80% hydro. In addition, Bullfrog is the only green power retailer in Ontario that uses customer demand to build new wind power generators.[3]

In Alberta, Bullfrog's power is from 100% wind powered facilities within Alberta. In contrast, over 90% of the power supplied to the grid comes from coal-fired plants and natural gas co-generation facilities.[4]

In British Columbia, the power is generated from 20% wind from Alberta's Pincher Creek facility and the remaining are generated by low-impact hydro in British Columbia.[5]

Bullfrog Power's sister company, Less Emissions Inc., is a provider of "high quality"[clarification needed] carbon offsets, certified under both CDM Gold Standard and EcoLogo.

Pembina Institute

The Pembina Institute is partnering with Bullfrog Power, Canada's 100% green electricity provider, to help promote green power for homes and businesses across Canada. [6]

Bullfrog also markets itself with the assistance of endorsement quotations from CEOs of The David Suzuki Foundation and WWF Canada (World Wide Fund for Nature. Formerly World Wildlife Fund). See external links below.

Bullfrog Power
is a 100% green electricity retailer in Ontario. The company sources electricity "exclusively from wind and environmentally low-impact water power producers who meet or exceed the Canadian federal government's EcoLogo standard for renewable energy."

Electricity production is largest industrial source of air pollution in Ontario.
To counter this, Bullfrog Power places electricity dollars with clean, renewable electricity producers; it essentially works by ensuring the amount of electricity you buy is delivered to Ontario’s grid from renewable, clean producers

These producers are primarily Sky Generation, a wind power producer, and Brookfield Power, a low-impact/clean hydro electricity producer.
The power purchased by Bullfrog Power is approximately 80% low-impact hydro and 20% wind power

Wind power produces electricity by capturing kinetic energy, which is converted to electricity, from surface winds.
Bullfrog Power is performing studies and is working with its suppliers to assess and minimize the impact of wind turbines on the natural habitats of plants and animals, though it has been found to have minimal ecological impact. Low-impact hydro differs from normal hydro in that it focuses on reducing ecological impact and meets a range of government-set environmental criteria, including the protection of indigenous species and measures to minimize fish mortality.

Switching does not require any special equipment because power is still drawn from Ontario’s electricity grid.
For this reason, switching to Bullfrog Power does not affect the reliability of electricity. After switching, power bills will come from Bullfrog Power instead of the local utility; however, the local utility will continue to be responsible for reading the meter and maintaining the infrastructure that delivers electricity.

The current cost of Bullfrog Power is 9.1 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) and is guaranteed to remain at the same price for the term of the contract (which can be terminated at any time).
As of May 1st electricity from the local utility will cost 5.8 cents per kWh for the first 600 kWh and 6.7 cents per kWh after.

Green energy costs more because it is wary of how it affects the environment.
Bullfrog Power pays a premium price for green electricity to acknowledge its greater overall value and to show the market more should be supplied.
