Bullfrog Power is a Canadian electricity retailer operating in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Bullfrog offers its customers power from renewable energy sources, such as wind and low-impact water power. Every generator has been certified to meet or exceed the federal government's Environmental Choice Program EcoLogo standard for renewable electricity.[1]
In Ontario, where almost three-quarters of the grid's power comes from nuclear and coal-burning generators,[2] Bullfrog's power is a mix of 20% wind and 80% hydro. In addition, Bullfrog is the only green power retailer in Ontario that uses customer demand to build new wind power generators.[3]
In Alberta, Bullfrog's power is from 100% wind powered facilities within Alberta. In contrast, over 90% of the power supplied to the grid comes from coal-fired plants and natural gas co-generation facilities.[4]
In British Columbia, the power is generated from 20% wind from Alberta's Pincher Creek facility and the remaining are generated by low-impact hydro in British Columbia.[5]
Bullfrog Power's sister company, Less Emissions Inc., is a provider of "high quality"[clarification needed] carbon offsets, certified under both CDM Gold Standard and EcoLogo.
The Pembina Institute is partnering with Bullfrog Power, Canada's 100% green electricity provider, to help promote green power for homes and businesses across Canada. [6]
Bullfrog also markets itself with the assistance of endorsement quotations from CEOs of The David Suzuki Foundation and WWF Canada (World Wide Fund for Nature. Formerly World Wildlife Fund). See external links below.
