Bummp is a community based collaborative website where users can post links to News articles and useful Web sites on the Internet. Other users may portions of the content or "bummp" the items up, down or off causing them to appear more or less prominently on the Bummp service pages.

Content Areas

Bummp's content is currently divided into the following sections:

  • NewsBummp offers users the chance to not only read, contribute and vote on content from their favorite news sites and Blogs from around the web, but also allows them the opportunity to "scribble" their own topical content and save it directly to Bummp's servers.

  • Bummp Directory allows users to search for only the most useful and relevant internet web sites and resources, ranked and maintained by its ever-watchful community.

  • Bummp Favorites permits users to create, collaborate and rate lists ranging from favorite places to have a picnic in New York City, to the best Mac OS X version and anything else they can think of.

  • Users can browse the news content or search through each content area via standard text search methods or by creating and using their own custom "filters" for quick access to frequent search criteria.

    Collaboration Model

Registered users can contribute to any of the above content areas, as well as "bummp up" or "bummp down" items submitted by other, affecting its overall rank and popularity. Bummp is the first service to allow such capabilities on all of its content.

Bummp also offers a unique collaboration model, by only permitting its users to remove ("bummp off") or edit parts of existing content based on the number of points they've accumulated. These points are obtained over time and are based on the user's past actions in the system and how others reacted to those actions.

    Commentary on Comments

Online commentary is intentionally not permitted on the web site itself. Instead, users are encouraged to use their "votes" as the ultimate form of expression, as well as use Bummp's sharing feature to send the content and their thoughts with their friends in order to have a productive discussion without the all-too-common ankle biting and other juvenile responses plaguing many online forums today.

    History

Bummp was founded in 2006 by Roby Sherman who conceived the project and formed the the Bummp Team a group of Computer Science "implementors" and maintainers from around the world.
