Burin (Arabic: بورين‎) is a Palestinian village in the Nablus Governorate in northern West Bank, located 7 kilometers southwest of Nablus. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the town had a population of 2,573 inhabitants in mid-year 2006.[1]

Settler violence

The Israeli Police spokesperson said that Israeli police arrested Gilad Herman, a student at a Jewish seminary in the settlement of Yitzhar on 13 July 2008, after a failed rocket attack on Burin.[2] On Thursday 24 July 2008, in response to Israeli police destroying a settler trailer home illegally parked at the Adei Ad outpost, some 20 people from the Israeli settlement of Yitzhar attacked the Palestinian village of Burin, smashing cars and windows and cutting electricity wires.[3][4] From mid-June 2008 to August 2008 the human rights group Yesh Din have registered at least nine attacks on Palestinian families living in Burin, carried out by settlers living in outposts near Yitzhar or the settlement of Bracha.[5] The number of cases of "disturbances of the peace", the term used for harm caused by Israeli citizens to Palestinians and their property, increase in 2008 the data available indicates that there were 429 incidents in the first half of 2008, compared with 587 incidents in all of 2006 and 551 in 2007.[6]
