Business Network International (usually shortened to just BNI) is one of the world's largest business networking and referral organisations.

It was founded in the USA in 1985 by Dr. Ivan Misner, an expert in networking and word-of-mouth marketing. BNI operates internationally and in 2006 had over 4,600 chapters in 36 countries. It is predicated on the principle of "Givers' Gain" - by making business referrals for your chapter members, they will do the same for you. BNI is now the world's largest referral organization with Chapters in many countries around the globe.

Misner was not satisfied with the types of business groups that then existed and to rectify this, he put together a networking group that he felt was structured, focused on doing business, and had an emphasis on positive reinforcement and support.
