Buttersafe is a webcomic by Raynato Castro and Alex Culang. The subject matter of the comic is diverse, as are the characters, which rarely reoccur and range from anthropomorphized animals and food items, to imaginary creatures, to Londoners living in the 1800s. There is a large degree of variance in the lengths of individual comics which number as few as 2 panels to as many as 27. The perceived randomness of Buttersafe has led it to be compared with the webcomic Perry Bible Fellowship<ref> Beyond the Fourth Wall Forum</ref><ref> Automne.</ref>

Buttersafe's readership expanded dramatically in November of 2007<ref> achewood.com&geo=all&date=all&sort=0, Google Trends: buttersafe.com compared with achewood.com</ref> after becoming both a darling and a recipient of much criticism within the StumbleUpon community <ref> StumbleUpon: Reviews for Buttersafe.com.
