Calvin Michael Traxler (born on September 9, 1989 in East Grand Rapids, Michigan), better known as C-TIME, is a rapper and actor and currently a member of the popular rap label "Disturbing The Peace" "
DTP".
Born & raised in Grand Rapids, he moved to Decatur, Alabama where he eventually made a name for himself, first as the DJ for his rap group the YG'z and then as one of the most prominent underground Midwest/Southern rappers.
He is referenced as Ludacris protege.
Music career
Straight Outta Da Mitten
C-TIME released his local label debut,
Straight Outta Da Mitten, in August 2004.
This album was actually recorded,produced, and sold by Cal himself who at that time was going by the name C-Tyrant.
The album reached as high as #4 on the charts, and was a major success.
C-TIME made his mark on the industry with his single "
Its In Da Game" also "
Be With My Girl" and "
Get Back" along with his first ever single "
Scrap Dey Faces Off" from 2 years earlier.
Gametime
C-Time promptly completed his next album,
Gametime and released it at the end of 2004.
The video for the lead single, "Da Mad Scientist" (Crazzy Wit It)" was nominated for a
2004 URA and C-TIME performed it live at the awards' pre-show.
C-TIME also toured with
T.I. in
2004.
Learnin Da Industry
During the spring of
2005, C-TIME returned to the music scene after a brief hiatus with his fued with former label mate "
Gucci Mane" At around the same time, he released the lead single from the debut album of the YG'z,
Black Diamondz, called that because of the YG'z continuous wear of black clothing and black jewelry at the time.they also released a song called "
Crunk Spot" .Neither of the singles were as well-received by either the urban or pop audiences as his previous songs had been, and both music videos received only limited airplay on Fuse.
Learnin Da Industry opened strongly, but without a popular single, the album fell quickly.
Memoirs Of A Gangsta
In a recent issue of XXL, a hip-hop based magazine, C-TIME was placed in the number 1 spot for the best underground rapper of 2006, for his work with the YG'z and just the entire underground scene and being able to jump on songs with mainstream artist such as "
Young Jeezy" and still be able to keep his underground status.
The album Memoirs Of A Gangsta is C-TIME's first mainstream album being produced by DTP records and Universal records and is scheduled for a summer release of June 26, 2007.
C-TIME formatted the CD to have two sides: a "YG'z" side and a "DTP" side.
With the YG'z side having songs that allow him to rap with his YG crew and their style of music the DTP side being just feel-good music with rappers from the DTP label.
The first single, "Bump In Da Trunk", which features Ludacris & Shawnna, is scheduled for a release to U.S. radio outlets on May 16, 2007.
Others songs will be : "Da Prince" (Produced by Elaborate Musik Workshop), "I Was Wrong" (Feat.
R.Kelly) and "Azun Bitches" (Feat.
Jim Jones & Young Jeezy)[1] The album also features a song on the YG'z side called "Pop Wit It" featuring artist T.I.
& Young Dro & Lil Wayne.
T.I. who is also subsequently in a feud with Ludacris.
The album is expected to reach the number 1 on the Billboard 200 album charts "Ludacris" has said with a lot of confidence in his protege and is also predicting sales of more than 300,000 in its first week.
To promote the album, Ludacris gave a shoutout to C's ablum on a recent interview.
Acting Career
C-TIME has been acting in film since "Scooter Racin Scene" in 2006, but his big break came in 2007, where he received a deal for 3 million dollars to star in a movie with his long time friend Blake Kruzel in the Universal produced film "Dude Cops".
Which is scheduled to be released in early 2008.
C-TIME has also appeared in many
mixtape films with him and the YG'z.
Disputes
BIG CAT Records & AD & Gucci Mane
Furthering the
BIG CAT controversy, popular hip-hop music Artist
Gucci Mane organized a "Big Cat" mixtape against C-TIME & The YG'z titled "Not Ur Time".
Big Cat CEO "Marlon Rowe" demanded an apology from C-TIME for the Song on a Big Cat mixtape titled "Drop It On Em" No one else in the Big Cat camp knew anything aboutn the song, where he took shots at Marlon for promising C-Time & The YG'z immediate attention and a produced album in 3 months.
But after 6 months and no album C-TIME Released the song on the mixtape.
After Marlon had news of the song he kicked C-TIME off the label and soon after His YG'z crew followed suit all except one, "Adam Buttlman" the one who started the group with C-TIME in 2003.
He And Gucci Mane fired shots at C-TIME & the YG'z on the "Not Ur Time" mixtape.
Especially on a song titled "Clap-TIME" Where AD rapped over the beat "Da Mad Scientist" a beat C-TIME had made and put on his sophmore album.
AD had harsh words for C-TIME in the song saying "You left Big Cat and now u think ur hot but u nothin but pussy you know ur staright up twat" both AD & Gucci Mane fired shots at C-TIME & The YG'z but their were quick to respond with their own mixtape titled "Little Kittens" which contained 5 songs the most popular titled "Big Cat Presents Cucci Mane" feauturing "
Young Jeezy".
Both taking shots at Gucci Mane.
Since then the fued has continued but neither of the artist have yet to speak publicly about one another.
But as far as AD he and C-TIME had made ammends and has decided to rejoin the YG'z after leaving Big Cat and are in the work of a new YG'z album to be relesed sometime in 2007.
