CAL Cargo Air Lines is a cargo airline based
in Tel Aviv, Israel which operates scheduled
cargo flights carrying perishable goods and general cargo to Europe and the rest of the world.
Its main base is Ben Gurion International
Airport, Tel Aviv, and it has a hub at Liège Airport
(Belgium). The airline
carries approximately 100,000 tons of cargo annually, including
exports of fresh agricultural produce and industrial materials, and
imports of heavy machinery, automobiles, sensitive and
livestock.[1]
History
CAL was established in June 1976, starting charter operations on
2 November of that year. Originally, the airline leased aircraft
from El Al as required, however,
on 1 December 1999, it began operating scheduled services using its
own aircraft following receipt of Israeli government licences
issued in eary 1999.
Today, the airline remains in full ownership by Israel's
Organisation of Agricultural Co-operatives[2] and
carrying over 100,000 tons of cargo to and from Israel annually.
This includes the export of fresh agricultural produce and
industrial materials and the imports of heavy machinary,
automobiles, industrial and scientific equipment.
