CD52 is a protein present on the surface of mature lymphocytes, but not on the stem cells from which these lymphocytes were derived.

It also is found in monocytes[1] and dendritic cells.[2]

It is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)--anchored antigen expressed on the all lymphocytes as well as within the male genital tract.

Clinical significance

It is the protein targeted by alemtuzumab, an antibody used for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

It is associated with certain types of lymphoma.[3]
