CGI stands for "Conseillers en Gestion et Informatique" in French and "Consultants to Government and Industry" in English.

Serge Godin founded CGI in 1976. In French, the acronym “CGI” stands for “Conseillers en Gestion et Informatique,” or “Information Systems and Management Consultants,” in English. However, the official English meaning is “Consultants to Government and Industry”[2]
