CIBT Education Group Inc. (TSX-V:
CPT, OTCBB(US): CBTGF) is the parent company of CIBT School of
Business & Technology and Sprott Shaw Community College. Formed
in 1994, with international headquarters in Vancouver, Canada, and
regional headquarters in Beijing, China, CIBT Education Group
employs over 400 people in North America and Asia and is a leading
investment and managment conglomerate focused on the education
sector.
Track Record
Through its subsidiaries, CIBT
School of Business and Sprott-Shaw Community College, comprising of
over 40 campuses in Canada, China, Vietnam, Jordan, and the
Philippines, CIBT delivers foreign academic and career training
programs to students and corporations in North America and Asia.
Having been honored as a top ten foreign-owned MBA provider in
China, CIBT School of Business has been operating advanced academic
programs in conjunction with renowned schools from both China and
the USA such as Beijing University of Technology, Weifang
University, Western International University and City University
among others. CIBT was among one of the first institutions in China
to receive official approval from the Academic Degrees Committee of
the State Council to award foreign MBA degrees.
Sprott-Shaw
College, one of Canada's oldest and largest private post-secondary
institution bring significant expertise in trades and career
training programs. Having been an educator for over a century,
Sprott-Shaw College trains over 4,500 students annually in various
disciplines.
History
Dating back to 1994, CIBT was one
of the first foreign education providers to enter the China market
and deliver western based education to the Chinese. Ever since
then, CIBT has leveraged its success and have brought business
programs, technology programs, and career training programs to
educate China’s massive workforce.
CIBT grew significantly with
its acquisition of Beihai International College in 2004, from
Weifang Univeristy (“WFU”). WFU is the largest state owned
university in Weifang city, Shandong province with a population of
90 million people. WFU occupies a modern campus comprised of over
300 acres of land, and 8 million square feet of facilities with
approximately 37,000 students. In 2005, Toby Chu, Vice-Chairman,
President and CEO of CIBT Education Group was appointed honorary
president of Weifang University by the Chinese government.
In
December of 2007, CIBT acquired Sprott-Shaw Community College, the
largest private career and degree granting college in Western
Canada with 104 years of operating history, and 20 locations
worldwide.
Most recently, CIBT initiated its Pan-Asia expansion
plan to develop its presence in South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, the
Philippines, and other East Asian countries.
