About the School
Cactus Ranch is an exemplary school.
The school is over crowded and the third grade had to be in the portable so they always got rained on when it rained.
There are two playgrounds; a kindergarten playground (which is fenced in) and the big playground.
It has a lot of trees and a big field while the kindergarten playground has none of those.
Cactus Ranch on the playscape has stones (which is not good because the kindergartens put the rocks on the sidewalk so you kick rocks and sometimes trip).
In 2006 a new playscape was added to the big playground.
Many days the playscape is closed because many trucks come in to the school to fix the portables.
The lunchroom is very loud and messy.
Ms. Susan and Ms. Lily have to control the students (which is a hard job).
Jose is always seen in the lunch room.
He has to clean up all the filth of the children's lunch.
The gym is conected to the lunch room (they are only seperated by a wall that can be removed).
The gym is similar to the lunch room in that it is very dirty on the floor.
Cactus Ranch also has a morning news program called KCRE.
It begins with photojam (a slideshow of photos of teachers, students, and the school).
Then the program starts.
First they do the USA pledge, then they do Texan pledge, then they do the weather, then they do birthday books where they say the title, who got the book, and a breif description of the book is about (if a student has a birthday then they can pick a book which will be showed on KCRE), then they do special anouncments (some days there are no special anouncments), and then they end the show with the same photojam.
At CRE there are four ways for students to get home: bus, car, walker, or
YMCA where students stay after-school with
YMCA people.
