Caerns are places in the World of Darkness fictional universe, as depicted in the role-playing game Werewolf: The Apocalypse and related media.

Caerns are holy to Garou (werewolves) and are situated on special Places where the Umbra touches the material world, are home to Garou and spirits alike. Consequently, these locations are wells of mystical energy, making them scarce and jealously-guarded resources sought after by various supernatural factions, including mortal mage. A caern is almost always guarded by a powerful spirit and a sept up to 60 Garou.

Parts of the Caern


A common caern consists of the following parts:
; Bawn : the outer perimeter of the caern, commonly marked with claw marks or similar means
; Graves : area dedicated to those garou who fell in battle
; Living Area : commonly the part of the bawn where kinfolk and werewolfs actually live
; Shrines : religious areas, dedicated to a particular spirit, such as an ancestor spirit or a pack totem.
; Assembly Area : a place for moots, challenges, and other greater meetings of the sept
; Caern's Heart : the center of the caern where the Gauntlet falls to nothing; the ideal place for powerful rites
