Café Tequila is a trademarked lifestyle brand that was created in 1996 in San Francisco by Dr. John Fielder and his wife, Julie. The psychologist and his wife took advantage of three growing trends and combined tequila, hot sauce with an early Mayan motif to produce the worlds first tequila sauce line of products that could be used as condiments or cooking ingredients. Starting with Cayenne Red Hot Sauce the company went on to produce a Tequila Steak Sauce, Tequila BBQ Sauce, Citrus Habanero Hot Sauce, Creamy Jalapeńo Hot Sauce and Tequila Dessert Sauce.

Industry awards

Café Tequila has won over thirty industry awards for both packaging and its one of a kind products. It is the holder of the coveted NASFT first place packaging award and gold medal winner of the American Tasting Institute that uses well known executive chefs. The food division of the brand was sold in a buy out agreement with Original Juan Specialty Foods in Kansas City, Kansas. However, the agreement was terminated in September 2005 because of misrepresentation, non-performance and late payments of royalties by Original Juan.
