The California Coastal National Monument is located along the entire coastline of the U.S. state of California. Created by Presidential proclamation on January 11, 2000, the 1,000-acre (400 ha) monument is managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, an agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior. The creation of the monument ensures the protection of all islets, reefs and rock outcroppings from the coast of California to a distance of 12 nautical miles (22 km) along the entire 840-mile (1,350 km) long California coastline.[1]
