California University of Technology (also known as CalUniversity or CalU) is a private, for-profit university offering bachelors’, masters’, doctorate and dual degree programs through distance education, including online and correspondence modes of instruction.

CalUniversity has adopted innovative and progressive modes of instruction to launch forward its e-Learning initiative. Learning and interaction take place through Learning Guides (conventional textbook material available online and in printed format), an interactive Learning Guide (an iLG which is similar to an animated textbook) and a Learn Center (a common online platform designed to slot in different student learning modes, to stimulate them with challenges while ensuring that the experience is more fun than taxing).

Besides regular courses in business, management and information technology, the university has worked out singular courses in emerging specialized fields of study like multimedia & design, integrated project management, global business strategy, animation, healthcare, HR and advanced security systems. CalUniversity is in the process of filing a patent for its Knowledge TRA (Transfer, Retention and Application) pedagogic methodology, which enables the university to verify that the Application quotient supersedes Retention in every post-graduate established program.

CalUniversity’s unique selling proposition includes a dual degree program that combines the MBA and Doctorate degrees. As such, MBA students can avail the doctorate degree while still pursuing their MBA degree. Successful students receive two degrees concurrently in related areas of interest in fewer credit hours than what would be required if they had worked for each degree separately.

Approval

The Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, California (BPPVE) has granted provisional authorization to CalUniversity. Some of CalUniversity’s programs are BPPVE-approved and registered courses. <ref> BPPVE Approval </ref>

RAPID™ and FlexiLearn™ are CalUniversity’s two self explanatory models of program delivery. Students on the run and conversant with computers can choose the Rapid model for a structured online course based on a predetermined calendar. The FlexiLearn model draws on the conventional distance learning mode (thereby offering the convenience of time to students) obviating the need for knowledge of or accessibility to computers.

    Learning Methods

To provide a holistic learning experience to students, CalUniversity has drafted two distinct learning methods – ADVISE™ and CASE™ – so that students learn by reinforcing the knowledge that they have gained through classes. Students work on identifying key concepts, sharing the knowledge gained by creating interactive simulations and exploring the industry for possibilities. Primarily designed for the masters’ and doctoral programs, these methods are also used in some of the bachelor programs.
