Barbarian the main character, the son of a chief of the
Britons made captive by
the Romans, becomes the personal slave and companion to a
four-year-old boy whom he calls "Little Boots." Only ten himself,
Britannicus soon realizes that he is serving the grandnephew of the
emperor, one who bore a name that would be indelibly recorded on

Adult Swim's
The
Venture Bros., a 2006 episode (Escape to the House of
Mummies Part II) has the family travel through different
periods of time picking up various historical figures including
Caligula. They had him hold the Hand of Osiris, which he hid in his rectum. Also, the group
split up and Caligula was to team with Hank Venture, but after
sexually embracing him, he was told to go alone.
On NBC's Seinfeld, a 1995 episode, The Jimmy, found Jerry
comparing his dentist, Tim Whatley, to Caligula when it appeared
Whatley had sex with his assistant while Jerry was anesthetized. A
later episode from 1997, The Blood, shows George trying
to integrate food into his sex life. Later on, at Monk's, George
finds himself aroused by a meal, and in terror Jerry exclaims:
"I'll tell you what you did, Caligula, you combined food and sex
into one disgusting, uncontrollable urge!"
In the 1991 episode of
Red Dwarf titled
Meltdown, the crew
encounters a number of historical figures, including Caligula,
played by comedian Tony Hawks.
In the novel
Jane Eyre,
Jane compares her cousin John to "one of the Roman Emperors!". She
notes that she had "formed her opinion on Nero, Caligula, etc."
In a song from
Pinky and the Brain, Brain says,
"Caligula was no Boy Scout / He did some things we can't even talk
about."
Caligula is referenced in the songs "Convectuoso" by
Glassjaw ("I am
Caligula, glutton of gluttons."), "Caligula" by Macy Gray and "Caligula" by the
rock band Modey
Lemon. Also, the Pet Shop Boys' "It's Just My Little Tribute to
Caligula, Darling" from "Closer to Heaven" musical is dedicated to
this person.
In an episode of the sitcomSabrina, the Teenage
Witch, Caligula chases Hilda
and Zelda Spellman around their house after escaping from the
other realm through their linen closet. They instinctively ask
Salem
Saberhagen for help, unaware that he has been placed in a human
body temporarily.
The
science-fiction story "The Man Who Split in Twain" by F.Gwynplaine MacIntyre mentions the
(non-existent) movie "Carry On, Caligula", starring
Bob
Monkhouse and Cicely Courtneidge. Presumably this movie
(if it actually existed) would be one of the popular
Carry On film
series.
On the January 16th, 2007 episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien,
Tracy Morgan
was joking that everyone in his family has a nickname, and that
they had nicknamed Conan "Caligula." In an earlier episode, Conan
also showed a proposed series of stamps showing Caligula doing
insane things (including wearing a pair of faded jeans.)
In
Simon R
Green's novel Hell to Pay, a club of very ill repute for
sexual torture and depravity is called the "Caligula
Club."
Caligula is mentioned briefly in Robin Williams comedy
show, A Night on Broadway, saying, (after
referring to several celebrity fights) "At this point, even
Caligula is going, 'What the fuck are you people doing? Why don't
you just put Hannibal Lecter on Iron Chef? Just kick out the jams,
man!'"
Caligula is also the name of a rock band from northern
Indiana.

On an episode of The Golden Girls upon finding out her
date from the personal ads is actually married, Sophia says "Well,
if it isn't Mrs. Caligula. Why don't you come in and pull up a
whip?"
