Can Akalın (born
October 17,
1986 in
İstanbul) is a
Turkish international footballer.
He plays in
attacking midfielder position and currently plays for
Fenerbahçe SK.
Career
He signed a contract with Fenerbahçe in June of 2003 after spending 7 years in the youth teams of the same club.
After being recommended to Sir Alex Ferguson by Manchester United scouts, but he turned down the offer in a nationally broadcasted press conference saying "he still had a lot to learn from his club, and did not consider playing in Europe for another three years".
The Turkish wonderkid was initially called to the
2002 Fifa World Cup squad, but couldn't attend tournament due to a knee ligament injury.He is the youngest Turkish player who scored in a
Turkey Cup (Türkiye Kupası) final.
