A candle zombie (촛불좀비) is a South Korean term for a person who only follows others' opinions, especially anti-government opinions, without thinking on his/her own. It is analogous to calling someone a "sheep" in English.

The word originated in May and June of 2008, when thousands of people marched in the streets with lit candles, demonstrating against the government's decision to re-allow U.S. beef imports. The marchers were called "candle zombies" by their opponents.

It is now a wide-spread term in South Korea.[1639]

  • But actually, the only people who use this term is those who so called "the GNP part-timer". They are hired by Korea's ruling Grand National Party whose task is to post various malicious replies and thousands of mean posts.

Chosun Daily, a powerful and ultra-rightest newspaper, said that Korea's web-opinion is led by a few web users who accounts for only 1 % of total users. An analysis over the usage of web revealed that these top 1 % users were those who were the GNP part-timer.

Therefore, It's hard to describe the term "Candle Zombie" as a widespread, and popular word and this term is only used by a few of the ruling party proponent.
