Canoeing races at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London will be held from July 29 to August 1 (slalom) and from August 6th to 11th (sprint). [1] The slalom events will be held at Broxbourne White Water Canoe Centre and the sprint events at Eton Dorney. Total of 330 athletes are expected to take part. The men’s 500 metre races will be replaced by 200m. In addition, men’s C2 500m will be replaced by women’s K1 200m. [2] This was confirmed at a 2009 International Canoe Federation Board of Directors Meeting at Windsor, Berkshire, Great Britain on 5 December 2009.[3]For the first time, women will have two individual events in sprint canoeing. Because of the event changes, the finals will now be spread over a three day period instead of the two-day finals which had been in effect since the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.[4]
