Caraguatatuba, widely known by its abbreviation Caragu√°, is a city in the eastern part of the southern state of S√£o Paulo in Brazil. The name comes from the Tupi language and one of the words includes tuba meaning many. Caraguatatuba is the largest city of S√£o Paulo north shore. The economy of the Caraguatatuba is driven by agriculture and tourism. Caraguatatuba is a jetsetter of high society of S√£o Paulo, in the summer the city becomes one of the biggest hotspots in the country with more than 1.5 million tourists. The population in 2009 is 96.125, its density is 198.6/km¬≤ and the area is 484 km¬≤. The urban area and farmlands are within the coastline and valley areas, the majority of the northern part are heavily forested and rarely serves any roads to that area. The postal boundary dividing the 00000s and the 10000s lies to the southwestern boundary with Sales√≥polis.

Geography

Caragu√° is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra do Mar, where they were born the main rivers that feed on the beaches and home to the Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar.

Its neighboring cities are the Natividade da Serra to the north, Ubatuba to the northeast, the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast (with the island of Ilha Bela to the south), São Sebastião to the south, Salesópolis to the west and Paraibuna northwest.
