Caritas Holy[1956] Family is a 271-bed, not-for-profit, acute care, community hospital serving the Greater Lawrence, Merrimack Valley and southern New Hampshire communities, without regard to religion, race, creed or financial ability to afford necessary services. We are a member of Caritas Christi Health Care, the second largest healthcare system in New England.

At Caritas Holy Family, our top priority is delivering quality, evidence-based care with compassion and respect. We believe healthcare should alleviate headaches, not add to them, so we strive to give our patients all the services they need in one convenient location.

In 2006 we shifted our focus to better meet our community’s needs for efficient, cost-effective healthcare in the following areas: Oncology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular Care, Women & Children’s Health, Behavioral Medicine and Acute/Observation Services.

In this patient-centered approach, departments operate by the type of patients they treat, rather than the individual service they provide, resulting in teams of clinicians who are well-coordinated and familiar with your conditions and concerns. In turn, we are better able to care for the whole person – mind, body and spirit.

Our highly-trained clinicians use the latest advances in diagnostics and treatment to care for more than 300,000 people annually. We hold ourselves accountable for patient outcomes during each and every step of the treatment process, from diagnosis to discharge.

If you need to bring other items (e.g., glasses, a walker or hearing aid), please label them with your name. We recommend you do not bring items of value. If you do have jewelry or money, you will need to place them in the hospital safe or send them home. The hospital is not responsible for lost belongings or valuables.
To apply: High school students age 14 and up, college students, and adults of all ages are welcome. Following an interview and orientation, applicants are placed according to their interests and time availability. All volunteers undergo a blood test for immunities to rubella and rubeola, and have two Mantoux tests for tuberculosis. The hospital performs these tests at no expense to the volunteer.
If you have questions, please call Heather Linehan, Human Resources: (978) 687-0156, ext. 2440.
Expectations: Volunteers usually commit to four or more hours per week in a morning, afternoon or evening assignment. A minimum commitment of 100 hours allows the volunteer to acquire a real sense of service. Caritas Holy Family Hospital staff appreciate their volunteers and welcome them to their departments and units.
Volunteer benefits:
• Free parking, easy access by three bus routes
• Lunch as the hospital's guests when they volunteer
• Annual recognition dinner to celebrate their contributions
• Inclusion in hospital-sponsored events and discounts for employees
• Student volunteers with over 200 hours of service are eligible to compete for a scholarship funded by the hospital's Auxiliary

Why Volunteer?: Student volunteers use their assignment to explore healthcare careers, to fulfill school service requirements, and to develop work habits. Retirees learn they have valuable skills to share with our community; old friendships rekindle and new friendships blossom. Everyone leaves with the incomparable affirmation of having made a difference in someone's life.
