History
The school first as an Infants School in 1922 when population rised due to the residential development of the St. George area.
In 1919, the Minister for Public Instruction approved the development of a new school and two acres were bought from Messrs Taylor, Coates, English and Peatfield for 1500 pounds.
The plans and the making of the school were prepared but delayed because of the lack of finance and alternative schooling arrangements were done.
The St. Cuthbert's Church committee heard of the Education Department's problems and offered use of their hall.
The first lessons of Carlton South Infants School began on 28 August, 1922 under Miss A.
Cook's supervision.
Tenders were invited for the construction of the school's building on the acquired site by March 23.
The tender of Mr W.
Jemison of Bexley, for 6837 pounds was accepted and soonly work started and provided space for 111 Infants and 192 Primary students.
The school was officially opened in 1924.
But this was not enough because the building planned for an expected enrollment of 300 students and 600 were on the roll by the end of 1924.
St. Cuthbert's hall continued to be used, and was the main building's annexe until March 1927 when in 1926 classes moved out of the hall into new additions.
The new building added six new classrooms to Carlton South Public School, but still enrollments outnumbered spaces.
