Carmel marks Lawrence Roeck's debut as an feature film director. Lawrence co-wrote the story with Carlos De Los Rios after several years of working for Dina Eastwood (wife of Clint Eastwood) and the Eastwood family filming, editing and producing projects with them. The film's 24-day shooting schedule finished on location in Carmel, California in February 2009,[3][4] and included Carmel locals in several key scenes.[5]
Joshua Mason (Josh Hutcherson) is a troubled 16-year-old who is abandoned and finds himself in Carmel, California. An incredible art prodigy, Joshua gets involved in the art forgery business. While there, he befriends a retired artist Annemarie Sterling (Lauren Bacall) who recalls the early days of Carmel artists and their legacy of artistic integrity.
