
The Carousel Dinner Theater, (also
known as The Carousel) is a theater located in
Akron, Ohio. This is a
dinner theater which features a three course dinner and a
Broadway
musical. The theater began in 1973 in a converted
Ravenna, Ohio
supermarket. The theater featured a stage which revolved around,
which is the reason why the theater is named The Carousel. soon
after the Dinner Theatre moved into its current Akron Location at
1275 East Waterloo Rd. in March, 1988. In January, 2003 the
partnership of Joel Palmer and David W. Slaght acquired the
business. As of today, thousands of people come to see a Carousel
show, making it the largest and most popular Dinner Theatre on
Earth

The Experience
The Carousel Dinner
Theatre is a theater that is not like others. This kind of theater
provides a special experience for guests who come. You begin by
walking into a lobby with many marquees and red carpeting as well
as the box office and coat room. You will go to the box office to
present or get your ticket for the show. You will than go up a
carpeted ramp through the double doors and into an enormous
showroom. The showroom features a 1940's New York Supper club
atmosphere combining a Lavish Vegas feel. You will than take your
seat and a waiter or waitress will attend to you with your
menu/playbill. You will order your first course, which is your
unlimited beverage and appetizer. When the waiter or waitress comes
back to you again, you will order main course meal. The main course
includes a variety of steaks, seafoods, pasta, and soups. You will
enjoy your meal and once you complete your meal, you can order your
dessert for the intermission. If you did not notice, your meal
comes before the performance due to safety reasons. It is also
because you can hear much noise from forks on your plates and the
talking. However, there is no loud noise. It is very peaceful,
relaxing, and enjoyable. The show will than begin. The show
features a very amazing set, lavishing costumes, amazing
choreography, and music that will have everybody in a content
emotion. After the first act, there will be a 25 minute
intermission. During this time, you will enjoy the dessert you
ordered before the first act began. When the intermission is
complete, you will than enjoy the second act of the show. When the
show is finished, you will be guaranteed to have had an enjoyable
time.
Groups
Red carpet treatment awaits motorcoach
tour groups - the underpinning of the Carousel business. Upon
arrival, all motorcoaches are personally greeted by management
staff. We love motorcoaches and adore the guests that come with the
coaches. Carousel's Group Sales Department works closely with all
groups and can provide overnight entertainment packages from one to
three nights that include Northeast Ohio's finest hotels and
popular attractions.
The State of Ohio, as well as the Akron
community, has welcomed the Carousel as a vital force for
tourism... with its proven track record of group tour business from
across the country and Canada, as well as international travelers.
As a destination or overnight stop, the Carousel location at 1275
East Waterloo Road in Akron - just off Route 224 and Interstate 77
(only miles from Interstate 76 and the Ohio Turnpike) - makes the
Carousel accessible for those traveling near Northeast Ohio. The
Carousel has, year after year, been voted as the top motorcoach
attraction in Ohio and the top entertainment value in
Akron.

Q: Are your shows touring shows?
A: No, Carousel
produces their own shows, right here in Akron, Ohio and they are
equal to or exceed any touring production in our area.
Q: Is
Carousel an Equity theatre?
A: Carousel is the largest of any
professional Equity Union theatres in Ohio, and one of the premiere
Equity theatres in the region.
Q: Where do you get your
actors?
A: We cast professional Equity actors from New York and
across the United States. Most shows feature a mix of leading
Equity roles and non-equity supporting and chorus or ensemble
roles. When the cast size exceeds a certain number and when other
factors are considered, we will cast locally.
Q: How do you pick
your shows?
A: Choosing shows for each new season begins almost
two to three years ahead of time. It depends on what shows are
being offered by licensing companies, what other theaters in our
region have requested or have those shows booked and what we feel
will be the best productions for our Carousel audiences. We are
committed to bringing new productions, sometimes leading edge but
balanced with the true and tested musicals. We also send out random
individual and Current Carousel Subscriber surveys for
feedback.
Q: Is your food prepared on site?
A: Carousel employs
an accomplished Certified Executive Chef and a full restaurant
kitchen staff of thirty three individuals plus a service staff of
over seventy. All meals are served sit down in our dining
room.
Q: Do you have a dress code?
A: The dress code is
considered ‘business casual.’ We suggest dress shirts or sweaters
and dress pants for men; dresses, skirts or pant suits for women.
As always, you may dress as formal as you like for any occasion.
Please no ball caps, t-shirts, tennis shoes, jeans, shorts, jogging
suits or workout gear.
