Carpe Diem is the name of the third solo studio album from Mexican singer and actress Belinda, set to be released on March 23, 2010 through Capitol Latin. The album has a mixture of Electropop, Dance-pop as well as a different sound to her previous albums. The album was released March 12, 2010 in canadian iTunes by mistake, which lead to a mass leak over the internet and popular video site YouTube. The album was taken off from iTunes later that same day.

Background

The album name is a Latin phrase meaning "Seize the Day" coined by the Roman poet Horace. The released date was originally November 24, 2009, later Belinda confirmed on her Twitter that the release date was postponed from November 24, 2009 to March 23, 2010.

The album will include 11 tracks composed by herself and would be a change in her musical styles heard on her previous album, Utopía. Also said, it will include a song titled "Cuida de Mí" written for her late grandfather, who died in 2008. The album has confirmed contributions from songwriters Jimmy Harry and Nacho Peregrin and producers Aureo Baqueiro and Carlos Jean, as well as Belinda herself, who is accredited as composer, image coordinator and executive producer of the album.[2] The album's cover to Carpe Diem is a collaboration of Hello Kitty Meets Mac.[3]

Promo singles

Prior to the release of the album, three promotional singles will be released exclusively on Apple's iTunes Store as a "Countdown to Carpe Diem".

  • "Lolita" was the first promotional single, released on March 2, 2010.[4]
  • "Culpable" was the second promotional single, released March 9. The song is version of "Into The Morning" by the band The Weekend.
  • "Dopamina" was the third and final single, released on March 16, one week before the official release of the whole album.[5]

Singles

  • "Egoísta" is the official first single, the song is a collaboration with Cuban rapper Pitbull, released airplay on February 8, 2010 and digitally on February 23, 2010 through Capitol Latin.[6][7] The original first single was announced to be "Culpable", before being confirmed as being "Egoísta".
