Carshalton Village are a
football club
from
Surrey, who play in
the
Morden and District League
Division 6. Originally formed in the early
1990s and later reformed in
2004, their first season in division 8 resulted in
the side finishing ninth and thus being relegated, but an
impressive
2005-
2006 campaign saw the club promoted to the
Morden and District League Division 6.
An epic 5-4 victory over
Chessington and Hook United added the Edgar Hemingway cup to
Village's trophy cabinet having already secured the league
championship. And the treble was wrapped up thanks to a 1-0 win
over Parkhead in the Surrey Lower Junior Cup Final with Nick
Bayfield scoring the only goal.

Cup: Winners
Beginning the season with some impressive
victories, Village maintained a 100% record up to the new year.
Returning from their Christmas break saw Village overcome both
Tomlinscote and Downs United to reach the Surrey Cup quarter final.
Village were in cruise control in the league, so much attention
turned towards the Surrey Cup, as well as the Edgar Hemingway Cup.
With two important quarter finals coming up, Village were out of
the blocks rapidly to dominate Merton Rovers in the Surrey Cup
quarter final, easing through to the semi final with a 5-2 win. The
Edgar Hemingway quarter final was a far tighter encounter, with
much of the game against Monaco played with Village under pressure.
Going 1-0 to an early goal, Village forced their way back and were
2-1 ahead when Monaco equalised with minutes remaining. Down to the
barebones and with Village playing with injured players, extra time
seemed like the worst scenario possible, but last gasp winner saved
Village to send them into the semi finals.
Going weeks without a
league game, Village went straight into the Surrey Cup semi final
against CDS Strollers. Trailing at half time, Village were out of
the blocks instantly in the second half to go 2-1 up. An equaliser
from CDS Strollers looked to unsteady Village temporarily, before
Village hit back with three goals to reach the finals. Village's
100% record for the season was taken away from them in the double
header against NC Royals, but Village came back to leave them
needing just a point from their double header against second placed
Carshalton Celtic Reserves. Before the league decider came the
Edgar Hemingway Cup semi final, a home tie against North Star
Rangers. Taking an early lead, North Star scored an equaliser on
the stroke of half time. Village coped with a lot of pressure in
the second half to take the game into extra time, where they were
to go and score four goals to win 5-1.
A last gasp winner in the
first of the two games with Carshalton Celtic rewarded Village with
the title before a more convincing performance in the second game
demonstrate Village's superiority in the league. Village's final
league game ended in defeat against Mulladween but the minds of the
players were clearly on the forthcoming cup finals. An epic
encounter at Sutton United saw Village come from behind three times
to beat Chessington and Hook United. Going down to an early goal,
Bayfield equalised from the penalty spot but Chessington hit back
to retake the lead. Canham equalised on the verge of half time and
Baker put Village ahead for the first time in the second half.
Chessington equalised to take the game into extra time, when with 5
minutes remaining they took a 4-3 lead. Village pushed the majority
of their players forward and were rewarded when a fine finish from
Nick Bayfield brought the scores level again. And within the dying
seconds of the game, Bayfield stood up to curl a free kick over the
wall into the top corner to give Village victory.
The Surrey Cup
final was a far less interesting affair, not a patch on the first
one, but Village knew they had a job to do which they did with grit
and determination. Bayfield gave Village a first half lead, and
that was the end of the scoring and despite Parkhead pushing
forward they barely came close to forcing the game to extra time as
Village were to hold on to win a historic treble. Bayfield for his
efforts was to beat Danny Baker to both the Players' and Manager's
Player of the Year Award as well as the golden boot (top scorer),
whilst the impressive Jimmy Brindle claimed both the Sportsmanship
and Supporters Player of the Year awards. Scott Spelman's effort
again CDS Strollers won the winger the Goal of the Season title and
Rich Wilsher held off all competition to retain the coveted Idiot
of the Season honour.
