CaseIT is an annual Undergraduate Business Case Competition
with a strong IT focus designed to find the best and brightest in
strategic IT case analysis. It is the committee's hope to provide
students, who are studying various areas of IT and business, an
avenue to showcase their skills in areas such as problem solving,
team work, and critical thinking, to a panel of industry
professionals. In so doing, they will be able to strengthen their
confidence, their resume, and their business network.
The CaseIT
executive committee consists of a group of students who are
dedicated and highly motivated to bringing new opportunities and
experiences to their fellow university students. The committee has
recognized that today's competitive job market requires students to
have an edge in order to be successful. CaseIT provides students
with that edge in that the goal of the competition is to provide
students with the experience needed to produce that extra edge, and
to expand CaseIT's influence from coast to coast. One day, the
committee hopes that all MIS students throughout North America, or
maybe even the world, will be provided with the chance to
experience CaseIT.
History
CaseIT was founded by Paul Cyr and Zephaniah Wong. Both were
students at
Simon Fraser University and members
of the Management Information Systems Association (MISA), which is
an MIS student-organized club. They held the first CaseIT case
competition in 2004, where it was organized as an intra-university
competition between SFU teams. In 2005, under the leadership of
Jenny Chao, the competition expanded to include other universities
and colleges in western Canada. This expansion achieved so much
success that by CaseIT 2006, another expansion was underway. Headed
by Andrew Kumar, CaseIT 2006 encompassed universities across
Canada, from
Simon Fraser University to
Queen's University. This year's CaseIT
(CaseIT 2007) is headed by Somnath Suresh, a man with a vision to
expand CaseIT even further to include universities in the United
States.
