Cash and Prizes are what an individual would recieve if they won a contest, such as a promotion or a sweepstake.

For example, if an individual won bobbing for apples, He or She might recieve a goat as a prize.
However, if the contest was for cash, they might recieve $500 instead.

History of Cash and Prizes

Cash and Prizes might have originated as early as the inception of mankind.
Since early tribes had religious feasts usually consisting of dancing half-naked around a fire and non-sensical chanting, it is possible that these tribes had a contest where the participants would dance around a fire until they collapsed of exhaustion. The last remaining dancer would be rewarded a wooly mammoth (prize) and gold (cash). <ref>http://www.crrel.usace.army.mil/permafrosttunnel/1g3h_Wooly_Mammoths.htm</ref>

The first civilization to regularly hold constests resulting in cash and prizes are the Ancient Mayans.<ref>http://www.indians.org/welker/maya.htm</ref> The Mayans left behind magnificient murals depicting games resulting in cash and prizes.
The games were generally athletic in nature.

Modern cash and prizes come often from sweepstakes, notably the Pepsi Billion Dollar Sweepstakes, where specific codes obtained from pepsi labels were redeemed for 20$ cash.
Winners of a NASCAR race recieve cash and prizes from their sponsers.

Sweepstakes often trumpet massive "Cash Prizes", which is basically a cash reward.
This is not to be confused with Cash and Prizes because cash and prizes are two seperate but related things.
