Cat Bongz
The term 'Cat Bongz' is the most
common name attributed to the growing collection of images
depicting common house felines accompanied by a short burst of text
usually referring to some mischievous behaviour the cat is engaged
in or some humorous activity the cat is performing. Cat Bongz are
a perfect example of an internet phenomena. Its most common
application would be as a post on a message forum or a comment in a
user's myspace profile. The term 'Cat Bongz' was possibly coined
by one of the earliest examples - a kitten that had been digitally
altered to resemble a 'bong' or device for the consumption of
cannabis. The text added to Cat Bongz graphics is always
attributed to the cat and usually falls into two categories: A)
the two part phrase, often grammatically imperfect. For example "In
your computer, stealing ur internetz" (accompanied by a cat
creeping around inside a computer cabinet). This text will
invariably include a 'z' at the end of the last word, the two
phrases will be separated by a comma, and usually the word "your"
will be purposely misspelt: "ur". B) a simple phrase or word,
possibly a personification of whatever activity the cat is engaged
in. For example "Why you see me :( I am camouflaged" accompanied by
a picture of a white cat looking perplexed, peering over the lip of
a white container.
Some Cat Bongz images are just images -
usually digitally altered, of cat's performing outrageous or
curious activities like the image of a kitten with a sniper's rifle
ready to shoot someone through a window.
