AN INTERVIEW WITH CAZASOLES. JANUARY 2000
Just starting a new century, where does the plastic art goes?

I am tempted to be cynical and ask back "Which plastic art"? That will be very funny but it will not reflect with exactitud the way I think about the actual state of the art. It will means to overlook the work of few artists that are on a good path. Anyway, always was a little group of creators who move the plastic in one direction or another, but to answer a priori is impossible. I only can tell you that there is no other direction but forward, although some times it looks we are going back to the XVI century or even to the cave times.

Does Cazasoles is going in the same direction of that little group?

I'm following my on path; which I believe will make the due contribution.

What does that means in plastic terms?

It means to start where others stop, and walk on to nobody's land. But, look, even Cristobal Colon have to use the boats that somebody made, before he discover America. You can't do the hall thing anew. You add to what is done.

There was a Big-Bang in the plastic arts?

I believe in a moment where man accomplishes the phenomenal task of self-consciousness. Painting was the way to reassur it, a way to establish the difference between the man perception and the world, a way to express it and for others to notice it. The Homo Graphicus I called. Before that moment, the universe was empty... Everything done after that are modest contributions. I will say like Picasso when exiting the Lascaux cave in 1940: "We have invented nothing".
