The Center for the Arts (or CFA) is one of a series of specialty centers in Henrico County Public Schools offering advanced courses and learning experiences for students with specific educational and/or career goals.
At the Center for the Arts, students study Dance, Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Visual Arts, all taught by professional artists and teachers, supplemented by numerous guest artists from the college, university, and the art, theatre, music, and dance communities.
The chairman of the program is Lee G.
Hanchey.
The center shares its campus with Henrico High School and the International Baccalaureate Program.
The center started in 1990 with Dance and Theatre, and added Visual Art and Musical Theatre in the mid 1990's.
Over 240 high school students are currently enrolled.
Students are selected through a process of applications and auditions.
In addition to rigorous academic and artistic classroom training, student work is exhibited in gallery shows and showcases, a vital component of the program.
Graduates attend colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad, and are working in dance and theatre companies, studios, galleries, churches and schools, where they can be seen practicing their craft.
